Recommended Internet Options

Step 1: Checking for newer versions of stored pages

Please ensure your internet Settings are not set to ‘Never’ when checking for newer versions of stored pages.  This Settings is accessible from Tools / Internet Options then by clicking ‘Settings…’ in the middle of the General tab.

Step 2: Adding ChemConnect’s Chalkboard Commodity Markets as a Trusted Site

We recommend that https://commodity.chemconnect.com be added as a trusted site due to ActiveX downloads and Java/Tibco connectivity.  You can add it as a Trusted Site through the Tools / Internet Options / Security and clicking the Trusted sites zone.

Then clicking “Sites…” and adding https://commodity.chemconnect.com

Click OK to save your changes.

Step 3: Allow ActiveX components to be downloaded and initialized

The Chalkboard Commodity Markets market grid utilizes an ActiveX for displaying positions in real-time.  This ActiveX must be allowed to download and be initialized.  The following internet options should be set to Enable within the Trusted Sites’ Custom Level settings:

  1. Download signed ActiveX controls

  2. Download unsigned ActiveX controls (could also be set to ‘Prompt’ so user can verify that they are receiving release updates by being prompted for the download)

  3. Download and initialize ActiveX controls not marked as safe

  4. Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins

  5. Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting

Step 4: Microsoft VM should be enabled

Microsoft’s Java VM should be enabled and set to any option other than ‘Disable’.

Step 5: Scripting must be enabled

For ChemConnect Chalkboard Commodity Market’s java applet to communicate with the ActiveX component, it requires javascripting.  Therefore, scripting should be enabled.  The three internet options and the recommended settings are shown below.

Step 6:  Enable notification about script errors

If you encounter a script error while running ChemConnect’s commodity platform, your market grid may not receive further market updates of positions.  To allow you to better know if you have had a script error, we recommend that you turn script error notification on. The internet option that turns this script notification on is located in Tools / Internet Options / Advanced and it’s recommended settings are shown below:

Step 7:  Ensure your browser will not reuse browser windows

If your desktop reuses the ChemConnect browser window for another internet site you are attempting to browser, then you will be inadvertently logged off of ChemConnect’s trading platform.  The internet option that determines this behavior is located in Tools / Internet Options / Advanced and it’s recommended settings are shown below (notice the last option ‘Reuse windows for launching shortcuts’):

Step 8: Disable Sun’s Java VM

If you have installed Sun’s Java, then you will need to disable it when running ChemConnect’s commodity platform. The setting will be located within Tools / Internet Options / Advanced in an additional section called ‘Java (Sun)’ as shown below.

Step 9: Enable Java logging

To help in troubleshooting problems we recommend that Java logging be enabled in your browser.  This setting is found within Tools / Internet Options / Advanced and is shown below.
